A Closer Look With…
Cindy Wamsley — 2018 | Tallahassee
Who have you learned the most from?
I have learned a great deal from my children and grandchildren. They teach me every day that life is full of adventure, whimsical moments, and endless love. Not to mention patience and sometimes heartache.
When was the last time you felt lucky?
I feel lucky every day. I have my health, a wonderful family, and great friends.
What is something that both scares and intrigues you?
The ocean. I can spend hours on its shore and yet at night, when it’s dark, it can be quite intimidating.
Have you found something valuable? Did you turn it in or keep it?
I found a wallet once and I did turn it in. I believe in Karma.
Name your alter ego.
Master Gardener. I have often imagined myself running a botanical garden or owning a nursery, where my days are filled digging in the dirt and tending to plants. I love gardening.
What do you think airlines should offer on flights that they currently do not?
Free internet and bigger bags of pretzels.
What is something you hate, but wish you loved?
I hate going to the movies. I usually enjoy it when I do go, but I always have a good excuse not to go.
Would you rather swim in a pool or the ocean?
The ocean. I love the salt water on my skin.
What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?
My move from Florida, where I’d lived since the age of 12, to San Francisco. I was terrified of leaving my family and everything comfortable. It turned out to be a great experience.
Kristi Solt — 2018 | Dallas
Who have you learned the most from?
Hands down, my parents. They are the strongest, smartest, hardest working, most honest, and genuine people I have ever known. They are my inspiration and the reason I am the woman I am today.
When was the last time you felt lucky?
Ok, this is going to sound cheesy and cliché, but literally every single day. And the reason I feel lucky is because I married the most amazing man I’ve ever known (with the exception of my father). I literally wake up every day and thank God for bringing me a man I don’t deserve.
What is something that both scares and intrigues you?
Great White Sharks — or sharks of any kind. I’m utterly fascinated by and completely terrified of them. Shark Week on the Discovery Channel is my ultimate guilty pleasure.
Have you found something valuable? Did you turn it in or keep it?
I have never found anything valuable that I can remember. But I did once lose a plain white envelope with $1,000 cash inside and unbelievably, someone turned it in. My faith in humanity was restored that day.
What topic do you always give your two cents on?
Animal rescue. For better or worse, I am a huge animal welfare/animal rescue advocate.
If you were entering a baking contest, what recipe would you make?
Homemade coconut cream pie from scratch (including a homemade crust and homemade whipped cream). I love to bake and this is the recipe I’m currently trying to perfect.
Describe one of your parent’s funniest traits.
Oh my gosh — this one is easy. My mother, bless her heart, literally cannot watch a movie without falling asleep. Whether she is at home, at a friend’s house, or even at the theater, as soon as the opening credits roll she is nodding off and by the end of the first scene she is sound asleep.
