A Closer Look With — David Tadlock

What’s your current role at Capitol Services?
Tallahassee Branch Manager

What was your first role with Capitol Services?
UCC CSR

On my first day at Capitol Services, I will never forget…
Being paired with Sandra Wakeman; she had the driest and best sense of humor.

What is your favorite quote?
“As if you could kill time without injuring eternity.” ― Henry David Thoreau

What sound do you love?
The sound of my 2 boys (ages 2.5 and almost 4) sound machines as they are sleeping peacefully, instead of running around like maniacs.

If you could live in a book, television show, or movie – what would it be?
Swiss Family Robinson always looked pretty cool; but the reality would probably be sun poisoning, malaria and starvation.

Who’s your personal hero?
My parents, for more reasons than I can fit in here…. But they say never meet your heroes so maybe I should start keeping my distance.

When I was “little”, I thought I would grow up to be…
Probably something unrealistic like a superhero, maybe there’s still hope…… I wonder if the world needs a UCC-man type superhero? Please don’t use this one haha

The top three items on my bucket list are…
Hiking the Appalachian trail
Honestly, getting my kids out of diapers…. I cannot fathom what a diaper-free life is like (1 down – 1 to go)
Build a project car with my sons when they are older, I think the skills they learn will benefit them for the rest of their life (or they’ll hate it)

What is your theme song?
“My Bucket has a Hole In It” – Hank William, Sr.

What artist will we NEVER find on your phone (iPad, computer?)
I’d never rule anyone completely out. I was going to say Kenny G then I went to Spotify to be sure, and he reeled me in with “Forever in Love”…. Dang you Kenny!

If you had to abolish one piece of modern technology, what would it be and why?
Unboxing videos are pretty horrible, so I would threaten to abolish Youtube unless they removed all unboxing videos.

If you could master one skill that you don’t have right now, what would it be?
Maybe if I could play the guitar really good without having to put any effort in, I guess I’d take that.

What fad do you wish would come back? Which should have never come in the first place?
The fanny pack worn around the waist, not that non-committal slung around the shoulder nonsense. Tik-Tok dances should probably not exist.

If you’re outside on any given weekend, what are you doing?
Usually playing with my kids, they have an infinite amount of energy and are almost impossible to wear out. In the event that I get some free time I’m usually fishing, or torturing myself in attempt to train for an upcoming triathlon.

What’s your current role at Capitol Services?
I am currently a regional UCC service rep.

What was your first role with Capitol Services?
I started out at Capitol Services as a runner and SOP processor.

On my first day at Capitol Services, I will never forget…
I will never forget how friendly and welcoming everyone was on my first day helping me learn the ropes.

What is your favorite quote?
“So many things are possible as long as you don’t know they’re impossible.” – Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth

What sound do you love?
I have always been partial to slide whistles; they are a great way to entertain kids in a pinch.

If you could live in a book, television show, or movie – what would it be?
I think it would be fun to live in a musical, and spontaneously break out into singing and dancing throughout the day.

Who’s your personal hero?
I’ve always admired Fred Rogers; my favorite anecdote of his is that when congress held a hearing to decide if they would cut the funding for PBS, he instead convinced them to increase its budget by reading them poetry.

When I was “little”, I thought I would grow up to be…
I had wanted to become a teacher when I was younger, and although I’ve always like working with kids it ended up being a bit too stressful for me to make a career out of it.

The top three items on my bucket list are…
Run a marathon, watch a show on Broadway, and hike the Appalachian Trail.

What is your theme song?
It’s tough to choose just one; either “No Hard Feelings” by The Avett Brothers, or “Troubleman” by Electric Guest.

What artist will we NEVER find on your phone (iPad, computer?)
I don’t think there’s any artist that I would never listen to on principle; I believe that every artist has at least one good song in them, even if it’s not my usual go-to.

If you had to abolish one piece of modern technology, what would it be and why?
It’s not that I hate them per se, but I feel like most people wouldn’t notice if hover boards disappeared.

If you could master one skill that you don’t have right now, what would it be?
If I had a bit more free time to devote to it, I would want to learn sign language. I think that would be a useful skill to have.

What fad do you wish would come back? Which should have never come in the first place?
I’m not sure that I am tapped into popular trends enough to really know how to answer this question. My mom told me that pet rocks were really big in the 1970s though, that could be interesting.

If you’re outside on any given weekend, what are you doing?
There is a very nice park a short distance from where I live, so I can often be found taking a stroll there.
