A Closer Look With…

Parrish Madonia — 2007 | Baton Rouge

A Closer Look With — Parrish

What have you found to be your biggest silver lining during this quarantine period?
Sleeping late and making it to the office (dining room) on time.

What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?
Going to the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. As soon as the elevator started going up, I went to my knees and stayed there until I was back down on the first floor. I couldn’t move. Everyone’s laughing — I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

What is something you hate, but wish you loved?
Heights — I believe being so scared of heights has caused me to miss some fun adventures.

Describe one of your parent’s funniest traits.
My mom is not a drinker, but she loves this blueberry wine and when she drinks this she likes to dance to Cajun music with an imaginary partner. I guess I take after her a little because I don’t drink much either, but when I do I’ve been known to dance with a few chairs! LOL

Tell us how your 2020 vacations plans have changed.
My niece had a baby in March and I was scheduled to go meet him in Oklahoma. I had to postpone the trip until June and I finally met my great nephew Wesson.

What topic do you always give your two cents on?
Food and cooking. I love to cook so when I hear one of my nieces or nephews talk about something they have made and theirs didn’t come out as good as mine I just have to tell them what they did wrong.

If you were entering a baking contest, what recipe would you make?
Cheese Cake — I make a pretty good cheese cake.

Would you rather swim in a pool or the ocean?
Ocean — I love everything about the ocean.

What is the funniest movie you’ve ever seen?
I have a few — Bridesmaids & My Cousin Vinny are two of my favorites for sure.

Is there a food you loved as a kid that you hate as an adult?
Chocolate — I can eat white chocolate, but all other chocolate makes me gag.

Name your alter ego.
Old Cajun grandmother because I am always trying to give someone food.

Who have you learned the most from?
I have two — my sister Stacy and my best friend Shawna. My sister has always been there for me and thru the years she has helped me thru some very difficult situations. I could not imagine life without her. As to my friend Shawna, she has been a godsend in my life. I have always had a strong work ethic, but she has helped me gain the confidence I have in my work and as a person.

When was the last time you felt lucky?
Christmas Eve back in 1995 my mom, sister and brother-in-law went to the casino in Shreveport after midnight mass. I hit on the slot machine and won $1250.00. It was one of the best Christmas ever and I was able to share with my family.

If you were to reincarnate as an animal, which animal would you choose?
Dolphin — I can swim in the ocean all the time and be one of the coolest animals ever.

What is something that both scares and intrigues you?
Snakes — I love looking at snakes from a distance. I don’t want to hold them, pet them or even be around them, but I do find them to be fascinating creatures.

Have you found something valuable? Did you turn it in or keep it?
I found a ladies wallet in the bathroom of our office building and it was full of cash but had no ID. I checked in with every office on our floor and no one claimed it and when I was heading back to my office a lady came out of the restroom and she was freaking out. I asked her by some chance are you looking for a wallet – it was hers – perfect timing!

Rob Yoho — 2017 | Austin

A Closer Look With — Rob

What have you found to be your biggest silver lining during this quarantine period?
Two of my pals and I do a New York Times crossword over video chat every week. We’re getting pretty good! Can destroy a Thursday now and I do mean DESTROY!

What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?
Skydiving. It was a total surprise, and I think that was the best way to make me do it.

What is something you hate, but wish you loved?
Popcorn. At the movies I am always looked on as a pariah, even though I always remind everyone “You know for sure I will not steal any from you.”

Describe one of your parent’s funniest traits.
My mom can fall asleep ANYWHERE, and she passed this trait to me. We both fell asleep at a Rush concert.

Is there anything that you found cumbersome or mundane pre-quarantine that you find yourself missing?
Austin traffic, come back to me. I’ll never complain about you again (this is a big lie, though I do actually miss it in a very masochistic way).

Tell us how your 2020 vacations plans have changed.
They went from “Ooooh, where am I going to go, the possibilities are endless!” to “The fridge. I am going to the fridge again.”

What topic do you always give your two cents on?
Theatre/Acting/Movies/Directing/Performing Arts. I’ve been doing it for about 18 years now and I… can’t stop myself.

If you were entering a baking contest, what recipe would you make?
The “Shhh…I bought this from a bakery, don’t you dare tell anyone else or you will be WEARING THIS CAKE.”

Would you rather swim in a pool or the ocean?
Huge infinity pool!

What is the funniest movie you’ve ever seen?
The Birdcage.

What was the last social faux pas you made?
Every time I smile at someone now, I forget I’m wearing a mask and then I’m just staring at them and then they want me to go away and I do too.

Is there a food you loved as a kid that you hate as an adult?
Not particularly… my tastes have only expanded.

What are you hypocritical about?
Reading versus watching TV. I do love to read, but then Love Is Blind premiered on Netflix and now I’m invested in these doofuses.

Name your alter ego.
Robbie Swindle. If I ever become an evil wrestling manager, that’ll be the name I use.

Who have you learned the most from?
My grad school professor David. He really pushed me to my limit and past it and I’m mega grateful to him for it.

When was the last time you felt lucky?
On Facebook, I put out a post saying the first ten people to comment will get a “thank you” note from me. No reason other than to celebrate them as a human being. All ten who signed up are really lovely people. I keep good company.

If you were to reincarnate as an animal, which animal would you choose?
Otter. The answer is otter and no other answer is acceptable… okay, maybe penguin but otter is first.

What is something that both scares and intrigues you?
Skiing. I’m a Florida boy, didn’t have mountain activities growing up.

Have you found something valuable? Did you turn it in or keep it?
In grad school, I found my best friend and I’m keepin’ her. I got to officiate her wedding and that’s always gonna be in my top 5 life moments.
